Recently, @Ali00035 brought to my attention this fork of LiquidBounce claiming to be free of proprietary dependencies, as liquidbounce depends on proprietary components to render it's GUI.
Does it bother any of you that LiquidBouce depends on ultralight for rendering all GUI components, even though it is not FOSS?

The fork is made by @commandblock2 by the way.

@BobIsMyManager Is there a FOSS alternative to Ultralight?

@red-mist There already is chromium embedded framework, but if you want a lighter solution you can always work directly with webkit (but I understand that is much more difficult. I would also like to point out that for the luancher, tauri can be used instead, as the backend is written in rust. What is important though is that liquidbounce is built in a way that makes it very easy for the renderer to be replaced, as the tauri team are in the future going to add other bindings, which will probably also be added to their own renderer, wry.

rms fans when they whip out a librebooted thinkpad, boot up qubes, connect to a homemade router with pfsense connected to a vpn chained with 17 proxies, connect to some swedish vpn provider, just to open minecraft

              no but really why bother

@aftery it's not really the privacy aspect, it's just that at any time, the ultralight team can decide they don't like what liquidbounce does, and revoke their permission to use it, and even sue them if they don't stop using it. This is because freedom wasn't granted to use, copy, modify and/or distribute the software for any purpose with or without fee. This also means that people cannot improve the software, which limits everyone who uses it.

@bobismymanager Most of the time software also need to be free as in freedom, not just in price.

choosing to be proprietary is also a freedom

its a service you're paying for after all

oh yeah you also get the full source code if you pay

@aftery You're paying for a license to the software with limited freedoms, buying the software is different, this video explains the difference

@bobismymanager Most of the time people don't care, all they care is if it is; free, safe, good/useful.
