Malcolm has been playing RuneScape
This, however, was not RuneScape gold the case with Brendan Malcolm, the one-man team from Australian developer Games By Malcs, whose idle RPG Melvor Idle is being published by Jagex the maker of RuneScape the game which was the main inspiration behind his own initiative.
Melvor Idle strips away the graphics and 3D environments of RuneScape and similar MMOs and distills it down to a menu-based idle game that lets players control their inventory, skills and quests. Participating in combat battles or winning them will earn you XP as well as loot, which can be placed into the improvement tree or skill tree players wish to purchase, while repeating actions such as crafting and cutting wood yields benefits.
Malcolm has been playing RuneScape since his early days, and has also dabbled in many of the leading idle games like Clicker Heroes, Cookie Clicker and NGU Idle. While he was a fan but felt that the genre could be doing something more fulfilling in a way similar to Jagex's top RPG.
"So I decided to challenge myself to develop my own but never ever imagining that it would actually be released, or even become an instant hit," he tells GamesIndustry.biz. "I wanted to create something outside of the established idle game mould, something that was feature-rich and gave players option in the way they would like to advance instead of just increasing numbers over time.
After playing with ideas for bit in the privacy of my own home I started mingling ideas and techniques from classic MMOs and the well-known idle game strategy, creating something fun to play in the comfort of your own home, at the gym, and fit it into the hectic lifestyle of players."
Melvor adds: "While the numbers and statistics stuff isn't something that all players enjoy the most about MMOs but it's what gamers who are hardcore prefer once their exploration has been completed. Since it is often central to the things that long-term players are focused on it makes sense to adopt this as one of the main elements of the game's design. Plus it meshes very well with Buy OSRS gold the design elements that are common to many games played in idle mode."
